A spa day can be a great escape from the everyday hustle and bustle of life. Unfortunately, many of us don’t have a few hundred dollars to spend at the spa every time we want to pamper ourselves and practice a comprehensive spa self-care routine.

That’s why implementing an at-home spa day is the perfect alternative to skipping out on the experience altogether or only going once in a blue moon. When you’re planning an at-home spa day you have two choices. You can opt for a basic no frills attached experience or you can go all out to create an experience you are worthy of, one reminiscent of the hours you spend locked away at your favorite spa luxuriating in the top treatments available.

The energy of your home can instantaneously alter your at-home spa experience.  When creating a peaceful atmosphere, be sure to consider the full ambiance of your home by addressing these factors.

1. Privacy
The number one tip for an at-home spa day is to ensure you have privacy. Setting yourself up to relax and nourish your soul with your children running around or a football game blaring in the background is not going to provide you with the desired experience. Carve out some uninterrupted time just for you, because you deserve it! Also, consider disconnecting from your electronic devices to rid yourself of all distractions and outside stressors.

2. Music
Playing music similar to what would be found at your local spa or enjoying a relaxing jazz playlist adds just the right amount of ambiance.  Music can also drown out any sounds that might distract you from your at-home spa day.

3. Lighting
Lighting sets a mood like nothing else.  If you intend to experience a real at home spa day, you should utilize lighting similar to what you’d see at a spa.  If you have adjustable lighting that allows you to reduce the brightness, you can take advantage of that option. If not, candles are a great alternative as they provide instant soft and relaxing lighting. Also, if you opt for scented candles, try a scent that emits a spa like aromatic experience such as lavender, eucalyptus, and spearmint.

Take the time to condition your hair deeply.  It’s easy for our hair to become neglected in our day to day routine, and deep conditioning sessions might not take place as frequently as they should. Whether you opt for a high-end conditioning treatment or your local drugstore brand, your hair will thank you.

5. Facial
There are a plethora of at home treatments available for your face.  Consider investing in a few tools such as a warm steam facial sauna or a personal microdermabrasion system.  These tools and the tons of other options available will truly up-level your at-home spa experience.

6. Manicure/Pedicure
You want to go beyond the typical nail clip, file, and color change. Instead, utilize the system used by your favorite nail technician when creating your at-home spa experience.

Soak your nails and toes in warm water, use an exfoliating scrub to remove dead skin, push back your cuticles and apply a nourishing moisturizer, use a base coat, add your favorite shade, and finish with a high shine top coat.

7. Bath Products
Don’t forget about creating a luxurious bath experience for yourself. A little goes a long way with these self-care staples:
